Barry D. Burgdorf maintains a multifaceted practice handling corporate, intellectual property, litigation matters in higher education, biomedical, and health care. Barry has served as general counsel, outside counsel and as part of the corporate suite, providing him a holistic view and inside track on client needs and problem-solving.
Following time as a business litigator and then corporate securities and M&A partner at Vinson & Elkins, Barry took the job of Vice Chancellor and General Counsel of University of Texas System, where for eight years he served as a key member of the leadership team and oversaw areas ranging from legal to IT security.
Barry regularly led UT System’s interactions with the federal government both in contracting and dispute resolution. His experience with federal agencies and contracting is wide and varied including the Department of Homeland Security, Drug Enforcement Agency, Border Patrol, Department of Education, Department of Energy, Department of Justice and National Institute of Health.
Outside of V&E and UT System, Barry was the first General Counsel of Samsung Austin Semiconductor and the COO of VuComp Inc., a medical imaging company, and Remedix Ventures, a biotech-focused venture capital fund
Andrew Strong, a Pillsbury partner, has extensive experience in managing significant matters on behalf of the firm’s clients including handling corporate and securities, private and public financing, legislative, judicial, regulatory and administrative matters.
Andrew represents public- and private-sector clients in the emerging technology, life sciences, energy, and real estate industries; public and private academic institutions; and governmental bodies on a variety of diverse matters. His experience in the board room for private and public companies to his experience in a court room or before a legislative or administrative body has helped hone his skills in representing small to large clients. Andrew previously served as the General Counsel and Compliance Officer for the Texas A&M University System where he was responsible for, among other things, crisis management and internal investigations for the System’s 11 public universities, 7 state agencies and health science center. He was the President and CEO of a start-up biotech company (Kalon Biotherapeutics) which he successfully grew and sold to Fujifilm and Mitsubishi. Andrew now serves on the boards of two publicly-traded companies.

Certified public accountant with 45 years experience, 15 years at the executive level. Worked in industry for 30 years and 15 years with global outsourcing companies. Directed financial planning, analysis and due diligence for a fortune 100 company. • Developed the winning F&A solution for two of Capgemini’s largest F&A deals – Warner Bros. (450 FTEs) and Coca-Cola Enterprises (700 FTEs); saving the companies approximately 40% of their baseline costs. • Managed the project that developed the merger integration plan for TXU Electric and Lone Star Gas Company, identifying $345M in estimated merger synergies and downsizing of approximately 400 employees.
Martin launched a Sage Investigations, LLC a Private Investigation firm where he investigate various cases including forensic accounting, income tax defense, litigation support, corporate investigations and anything related to following money, including fraud and embezzlement and Ponzi schemes.
