Barry D. Burgdorf maintains a multifaceted practice handling corporate, intellectual property, litigation matters in higher education, biomedical, and health care. Barry has served as general counsel, outside counsel and as part of the corporate suite, providing him a holistic view and inside track on client needs and problem-solving.
Following time as a business litigator and then corporate securities and M&A partner at Vinson & Elkins, Barry took the job of Vice Chancellor and General Counsel of University of Texas System, where for eight years he served as a key member of the leadership team and oversaw areas ranging from legal to IT security.
Barry regularly led UT System’s interactions with the federal government both in contracting and dispute resolution. His experience with federal agencies and contracting is wide and varied including the Department of Homeland Security, Drug Enforcement Agency, Border Patrol, Department of Education, Department of Energy, Department of Justice and National Institute of Health.
Outside of V&E and UT System, Barry was the first General Counsel of Samsung Austin Semiconductor and the COO of VuComp Inc., a medical imaging company, and Remedix Ventures, a biotech-focused venture capital fund
